Katie and Derek’s Columbus Museum of Art Wedding, In Columbus, OH

In honor of Katie and Derek’s second wedding anniversary, we are divulging all the details of their gorgeous and romantic white-out wedding here on the blog!

Their wedding was straight out of a modern fairytale. From the get-go, Katie and Derek knew they wanted a modern wedding venue. Early on in the planning, we got wind that the Columbus Museum of Art was building a new space that would fit the modern vision perfectly. It wasn’t finished being built, so Katie and I toured the construction site and the rest is history. The entire vision of the wedding was built off of the renderings we saw…not exactly ideal but it was 100% worth it. All white with floor to ceiling windows, it was everything we could have hoped and dreamed it would be when the building finally came to life.

I think it’s so fun when grooms get involved in the planning process. It was actually Derek who had an awesome idea of making their Save the Dates into coasters. Every single guest received a set of 4 coasters that said: Save the Date, 5.2.16, Columbus, OH and Cheers! To this day Katie and Derek see these coasters in their friends and families’ homes…how fun is that! As for the invitations, they were a white acrylic with light gray accents to match the overall elegant white theme.

The florals were, you guessed it, all white, with tiny accents of O’Hara roses and lilacs. Katie’s late mom’s favorite flower was the lilac, so the florist was able to incorporate white lilacs into the bridal bouquet. Katie could smell them the whole walk down to the aisle and think of her mother. It was such a lovely and meaningful touch.

From the bouquets to the ceremony to the reception, the blooms were luscious and modern and beyond beautiful.

Katie’s bridesmaid tribe wore light gray dresses from BHLDN and the groomsmen in a classic black tuxedo.

The entire day was a white out, with accents of grey and white marble. A white dance floor, white modern chairs and all white florals for the ceremony brought the space and the vision to life. The stunning floral arch during the ceremony was such a beautiful backdrop! We love repurposing florals when we can, so the ceremony flowers were used again during the reception. They were just too pretty to only be enjoyed for half an hour.

Instead of having table linens, we had white acrylic tables in the reception. The tables were not an easy source, as there were none in Columbus or the surrounding area at the time. We ended up teaming up with All Occasions and flew them in from China. I’ll never forget being up at 12 am negotiating around the Chinese New Year (oh the things you don’t see in a J. Lo movie).
We topped the beautiful tables with mirror chargers, personalized menu’s as seating cards, silver napkins and several different centerpiece arrangements- it was a tablescape out of a modern and romantic dream.

Another design aspect that pulled all of the paper goods together (like the menu cards, table numbers, bar signs etc) was the K&D monogram. It’s so important to have a cohesive look for all of the small details as well as the big details.

How perfect and amazing is the marble bar??? It is actually a white bar, that we had custom marble laminant added to.

The signature drink was  “Sun sets in the East” Mojito as an ode to the day Katie and Derek got engaged. Before he was about to propose in Puerto Rico, Derek told Katie they were going to see the sunset.  Katie was too overwhelmed (thank goodness) to even notice that they were staying on the East side of the island, making that quite an impossible adventure.

I mean, come on with these floral arrangements!

White, marble and silver on repeat.

The great part about having clear glassware and floral vases apart from the modern look, is they don’t block any guest’s view across the table. Win win!

First Dance: “Soulshine” by the Allman Brothers

Even the cake carried out the vision of the day- a four layer cake comprising of a silver layer, marble looking layer, white with their monogram and an all white layer. Blush Arrows knocked it out of the park with this one.

A very happy anniversary to you, Katie and Derek! Thanks for letting me be apart of your beautiful day.
